Local Mental Health Charity Are Bringing Smiles and Sweet Treats this Half Term
On various days over the Whitsun half term, we’re delighted to welcome Megan’s Starr Foundation and their delicious Speakeasy Coffee & Shake Van who are serving up some tasty treats to our staying guests over at the Holiday Park.
Megan’s Starr Foundation is a local charity set up to support the wellbeing of young people and anyone who may have been affected by suicide, loss and/or mental health issues. Their mission is to create a kinder, more accepting, and more inclusive community where support for young people is readily available to help prevent bullying, and to raise awareness of the importance of metal health support here in Wales.
The charity is run entirely by volunteers, and operates outside of their community coffee house in Charles Street, Milford Haven. Their team of volunteers includes local young people seeking to gain experience in working roles, and professionally trained support workers, offering wellbeing and mental health support to members of the public.
They are regularly seen touring Pembrokeshire in their Speakeasy Coffee & Shake Van, dropping in to various spots and events, chatting to locals, offering support, and of course serving up those yummy goodies (and yummy they certainly are)!
The Speakeasy Van, which is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund Wales project, has enabled the team to travel to more remote areas, helping to remove transport barriers for young people seeking wellbeing and mental health support. This is an important step for the charity in raising the profile of mental health among young people, especially in remote areas here in Pembrokeshire.
Thanks again to the amazing volunteers from Megan’s Starr Foundation, and to our fantastic guests at our holiday park who have purchased goodies to support them – we hope you all enjoyed your yummy snacks as much as we did ours (shhh…!)
By supporting charities and volunteers, like the amazing people at Megan’s Starr Foundation, together we can help break the stigma, get more people talking about mental health, and help create a kinder, and more inclusive community here in Wales.
