A really special moment for our proud rhino keepers.
Over the last few months, keepers have noticed behavioural changes in our pregnant rhino, Dakima, but seeing her baby kick for the first time was confirmation of a very important pregnancy.
Due sometime late January or early February, Dakima is one of just 90 black rhinos in zoos across Europe, and with fewer than 650 black rhino left in the wild, this pregnancy is significant for the future of the species.
Our keepers caught the baby kicking on camera and have also provided a little pregnancy update video for you all.

[Pullout] “We were really excited to feel the baby kick for the first time and we managed to capture it on video. The pregnancy is going really well at the moment We monitor Dakima daily, her diet hasn’t really changed but she seems a bit more sleepy and a bit less social.” – Jack Gradidge, rhino keeper. We’ll provide any significant updates over the coming months so watch this space. Please note due to Dakima’s pregnancy we’ve removed rhino experiences from sale for now, any booked in until the beginning of November will still take place.
