Ashley Owston began his Folly adventure in 2019 when he was a part time member of the Folly Farm team, working on weekends and school holidays within the operations department.
“When I first started in the operations department, I would serve at the admissions tills, operate fair rides and help with the attraction’s custodial duties. I really enjoyed the variety in my role and loved coming into work – and knew I wanted to work more within the maintenance team.” – Ashley explains
After finishing his education, an opportunity became available where Ashley was able to work full time at the park within the maintenance team, as part of an apprenticeship scheme. Over the last two years, Ashley has been studying for his qualification, attending college once a week and working onsite, undertaking hands on, practical work under the supervision, guidance and experience of his fellow peers.
Fast forward to 2024 and Ashley has now completed his college qualification and has started his journey working in the maintenance team full time! It just goes to show that hard work pays off…Congratulations Ashley!
“I like that my role is different to ‘normal’ maintenance jobs and you never know what’ll be in store each day. The role varies from checking, testing and repairing vintage fairground rides, working on a variety of vehicles, fencing, woodwork, and much more. Every day is different!”
“My main hobby and interest is football. I’m a huge Man United fan! I also fly light aircrafts.”(Erm, wow)!
“The pelicans!”
“I think Folly has lots of opportunities to progress and try different roles. It’s a really nice place to work.”
