How do I adopt a penguin?

To adopt a penguin just click buy now and choose if you’d like a bronze, silver or gold adoption. You can adopt for yourself or for someone special and we’ll also send a special gift message along with your cuddly penguin toy in your adoption pack.

Your penguin adoption will last for 12 months, and 10% of the profit will help raise money for our conservation partners including N.A.R.C. who carry out underwater dives off the coast of Pembrokeshire to remove rubbish and protect wildlife. So, you’ll feel good about this gift too.

Fun facts about penguins

• The Welsh word for penguin is pengwin. Pen means ‘head’ and gwyn means ‘white’.
• Penguins have waterproof feathers. Their own built-in wetsuit!
• Penguins have a protective lens that covers their eyes when they go underwater. Their own built-in goggles!
• Emperor penguins are the biggest of them all, at nearly four feet tall. Little penguins are the, well, littlest, at just 16 inches.
• Penguins have very distinctive calls and can recognise each other among a whole bunch of noisy penguins.
• A penguin’s tongue is covered with spines, which help it catch and hold onto its prey.

About Folly Farm’s Humboldt penguins

Humboldt penguins get their name from the cold sea current that runs along the west coast of South America from Chile to Peru – and that was named after the explorer Alexander von Humboldt. These penguins make their home on sandy beaches and rocky coastlines and generally live for between 20 and 25 years.
