Folly Farm today welcomed the Pembrokeshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers as part of their workshop on spinning Alpaca fibres. Folly Farm donates Alpaca fibres for use by the Guild. The Guild meet at the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth, hold workshops and attend shows to demonstrate spinning, weaving and dyeing. The Guild included in the workshop a trip to Folly Farm to meet Marilyn, Lynsey and the rest of the Alpacas, who very kindly supply their coats once a year to be spun into yarn,  ...[more]

Folly Farm today announced the arrival of a male red ruffed lemur who is being hand-reared by Zoo Manager Tim Morphew. The lemur, which weighed just four grams above the 85g survival threshold, was born to Folly Farm resident Nell who unfortunately struggled with her new role as a mother. Tim has now taken on the role of surrogate mother and is hand feeding the baby lemur every two hours with human infant formula milk throughout the day and night. Tim will continue to feed the baby in this wa ...[more]

Folly Farm today announced the pitter patter of tiny feet with the arrival of three reindeer calves, a miniature foal and two baby wallabies. The recent additions are settling well into their new homes and are sure to delight visitors to Folly Farm. The reindeer calves, named Apollo, Rocky and Polo were born to three different mothers last week; the foal, a filly appropriately named Maya, arrived on the 1st May; and the baby wallabies revealed themselves for the first time this week. As a result of the recent spring-like sunshine and almost record breaking February temperatures, attendance figures at Pembrokeshire’s Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo have soared. With weather in parts of Wales warmer than Malaga, thousands flocked to see the farm’s newborn animals and new attractions. Folly Farm has it’s first baby Alpaca, born on 16th January. Following an 11 month pregnancy, mum Marilyn gave birth to the first Alpaca to be born at the farm under the watchful and protective eyes of proud father Isaac. A distant relative of the Llama, an Alpaca baby is known as a Cria and this, yet to be named, little girl already has a half sister called Kate. There are yet more new arrivals to see at Pembrokeshire’s Folly Farm, following the birth of two baby meerkats. Meerkats have been kept at Folly Farm since the opening of the zoo area 6 years ago and since then the staff have looked forward to the family growing. However, despite the best efforts of Folly Farm’s zookeepers, the meercats just would not breed. Visitors to Pembrokeshire's Folly Farm can now meet Sweetie Pie, Blake and Cassie, as the Folly family continues to grow each month.  These new arrivals are just the latest additions to Folly's Pet Centre. Sweetie Pie is a 15kg continental giant rabbit and has been a real handful for the staff since her arrival. Folly Farm is celebrating the arrival of four very unusual rare breed pigs called Mangalitzas at the Adventure & Country Park.  The pigs, who arrived at Folly Farm in February this year, very much resemble the extinct yet much missed Lincolnshire Curly Coat as they have unique woolly, curly coats! Excited staff at Folly Farm has just announced 9 new additions this season. Ten female deer or ‘hinds’ arrived at the farm in March 2007 and were thought to be pregnant.  During the month of June, staff discovered that nine Red Deer calves had been born.  Theses adorable new babies have been born with distinctive coats which are spotted, but will generally lose these markings after two months. Folly Farm is announcing yet another new arrival with their new hand-reared tawny owl male called Troy who arrived at the park in May 2007.  Troy joins a female barn owl called Achilles that was hatched in April 2006 and hand reared by park keeper Lynsey Woods.
